Day 25: The Day-to-Day

Nathaniel Liebes 2015

It all started for me two weeks ago on a red eye flight from Los Angeles to Newark, NJ. This was a flight I have been on probably 20 times in my three years of college but this was the first time that I would be working the morning of my arrival. Fast forward roughly two weeks and here we are.

“I have a laundry list of projects to tackle and have been given the opportunity to learn about the wide world of Consumer Products in a way I had not anticipated.”

Since my arrival, I have been working as a Consumer Products Intern at the NFL. On Day 1, I was thrown into meetings without knowing who was in my department and on Day 2 was at an offsite photo shoot. While those days were hectic, things began to settle and now I am in a day-to-day routine. I arrive to work, research, and “huddle” (notice the perfect football terminology) on different topics and tasks.

My internship so far has been informative and enriching. Given my previous experience in the industry, I thought that I knew what to expect. I had prior familiarity with Consumer Products specifically, but being the only intern in my department has kept me tremendously busy. I have a laundry list of projects to tackle and have been given the opportunity to learn about the wide world of Consumer Products in a way I had not anticipated.

MSBA Programming has been fantastic as well, despite the late start. While I haven’t met everyone in the program yet (probably because they are keeping us so busy), everyone I have met has been able to share unique insights about both their prior experiences and their current work at their respective internships.

Nightly speakers and workshops have been truly engaging and enriching as well. For example, we just finished up the Resume/LinkedIn Workshop. Throughout my college career I have heard many different pieces of advice on how to correctly format a resume or how to use LinkedIn but there was one piece of advice that I learned tonight that stuck with me. These things, your resume and LinkedIn profile, even a cover letter, are designed to be a representation of you. Therefore, the decisions of what to include and not to include are left up to you.

The lessons that I have learned from this workshop barley scratch the surface of what I have gained from MSBA programming. So far, even missing the first two weeks of speakers, I have learned the importance of things like “the digitization of everything”, brand definition on both the business and personal levels, and how to negotiate. My favorite part so far has been the engaging workshops. I am the type of person who likes to engage rather than simply listen and retain things and the workshops allow me to do this.

I am looking forward to what MSBA holds for the rest of the summer.
